個人的には1986年にMTVトップ20に入ったビデオクリップ Stereotomy がはじめて聴いた (見た) 作品。
気に入ってすぐにレンタルレコードで借りたもの。
翌1987年にアルバム ガウディ が出るとすぐにレコードを買った。
その後、ベスト盤CDが出たりして、しばらくアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトの話題を聞かないと思っていたら解散していたとは…。
アラン・パーソンズはビートルズ、ウィングスやピンク・フロイドの作品を手掛けたエンジニア。
1975年、アラン・パーソンズとエリック・ウルフソンによってアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトは結成された。
アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトは一切ライヴをやらず、スタジオでのレコーディングで活動し、1987年までにアルバム10枚をリリースした。
固定メンバーはアラン・パーソンズとエリック・ウールフフソンの2人のみで、レコーディングメンバーはアルバム毎に代わっている。
ただし、デヴィッド・ペイトンとイアン・ベアンソンの2人は準レギュラーのようなものでほぼすべてのアルバムに参加した。
アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトは曲によってリード・シンガーが異なるし、インスト曲も多い。
インスト曲もシングルカットされたし。
編集盤の The Instrumental Works はアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトのインスト集。
10曲入りのアルバムだったが、YouTubeでは全17曲となっている。
1990年にエリック・ウルフソン名義でアルバムFreudiana が発表された。
当初はアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトの11枚目のアルバムとして制作されていたが、ミュージカル向けへ変更された過程でエリック・ウルフソンの作品となったらしい。
アラン・パーソンズがプロデュースを務めた。
エリック・ウルフソンは2009年に亡くなっている。
アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトではソングライター、鍵盤奏者、そしてリード・シンガーのひとりでもあった。
エドガー・アラン・ポーを題材にしたミュージカル
Edgar Allan Poe などミュージカルや舞台を中心に活動し、ソロアルバム POE を発表した。
ミュージカル Gaudi ではアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトの楽曲も使用された。
アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクト時代の未完成曲を完成させて披露したアルバム Eric Woolfson Sings The Alan Parsons Project That Never Was は生前最後にリリースした作品だった。
2014年にアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトのオリジナルアルバムすべてを収めたボックスセット Complete Albums Collection が発売された。
オリジナルアルバム10枚と未発表アルバム The Sicilian Defence の計11枚が収められた。
アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクト後のアラン・パーソンズは、ソロアルバムを発表するかたわら、1990年代からライヴ・プロジェクトのアラン・パーソンズ・ライブ・プロジェクトやアラン・パーソンズ・シンフォニック・プロジェクトを立ち上げ、アラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクトをライヴ・バンド化している。
Alan Parsons Live 、Eye 2 Eye: Live in Madrid、Alan Parsons Symphonic Project, Live in Colombiaなどの主にアラン・パーソンズ・プロジェクト楽曲 (ソロになってからの曲もある) を披露したライヴ盤を発表した。
